I have just discovered two little gems that perhaps many of you are not aware of. Seven Day Road is a label produced by Fonty’s Pool Wines, primarily for the export market. These two wines, aptly named after the road the property is on, were a nice little surprise, and a steal at $11.99 – fantastic value!
Seven Day Road 2009 Chardonnay is a pretty wine, displaying ripe nectarine and hints of freshly-squeezed lime and floral notes on the nose. The palate is consistent, with the ripe nectarine and tropical fruits coming through, and a crisp, limey acidity to finish. Supple and fluid, this wine is lovely drinking now, yet time will see it open up further.
Seven Day Road 2008 Shiraz has a bouquet of rich, ripe plums, with hints of white pepper and vanilla, and invites you in to discover more. The ripe plum follows on the palate, with the addition of black cherries, white pepper and spice. Smoky cedar and chalky tannins are present, but do not dominate. A great, everyday drinking wine.
Fonty’s Pool Wines are located in Pemberton in our beautiful South West. Under the direction of Winemaker Bernie Stanlake, Fonty’s Pool produce many varieties, including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Viognier, just to name a few. I recommend you pick a bottle or two, and next time you are in Pemberton, pop in to the Cellar Door and see what else is on offer… you won’t be disappointed!
