Amberley Estate is a bit of an icon in the Western Australian wine game. Founded in 1985, they have been producing quality wine in Margaret River since 1990, their first vintage. Mention the words Seafood and Wine in the same breath in WA, and automatically you think of Amberley. Their name has become synonymous with the annual Seafood and Semillon event, which has become somewhat of a pilgrimage for wine lovers across the state.
Amberley’s Chimney Brush range is their entry level range of wines. Although the cellar door and winery is located in Yallingup, the fruit for these wines is sourced from various vineyards in Western Australia. Amberley is best known by consumers for their Chimney Brush Chenin Blanc, and on tasting the wine, it is easy to see why it is so consumer friendly.
Tasting the 2009 vintage of Amberley’s Chenin Blanc, the bouquet brings forth an abundance of fresh, ripe pineapple and red apples, with a hint of straw-like notes coming through. The ripeness of pineapple and apples follow through on the palate, with the addition of passionfruit and lychee, which brings about the lush fruit-sweetness that this wine has become known for. The wine has a slight acid lift on the finish, but you are left with the luscious tropical fruits that make this wine so approachable.
At a retail price of $14.50, this wine can be found at most wine retailers across the state. Otherwise, feel free to visit Amberley’s Cellar Door in Yallingup, or pop in for a meal at the restaurant.
