Ever been camping in the south west and looking for a new destination? Why not check out Conto’s camping area.
There are a few camping areas at Conto’s, one I stayed at recently is Hamelin Hollow. With lovely shaded and grassed areas you can’t help but feel relaxed when in that environment.
The campsites feature basic toilets, car parking area for each bay, and an outside kitchen area at Hamelin Hollow. It is best to bring your own drinking water. Conto’s is often used as a camping base for Cape to Cape walkers.
Conto’s is a short drive away from the beach, kiosk and Lake Cave. It is a fantastic base to have while you explore the local attractions; Cape to Cape walk, Boranup Forest, Tourist Maze, Wineries, Giant's Cave, and other caves.
Conto’s was originally a part of A.P.Bussel'ls pastoral lease, which was taken up in 1890. It then passed through a few other owners, including once being used as a pony stud in the 1920’s.
The story on how Conto’s got it's name is an interesting one. Apparently during the 1940’s there was a shack built on the beach nearby for use by the local “lads” for fishing. Their preferred choice of brew at that stage was wine made by Orlando’s Winery called Conto Wine. With empty “Conto’s” containers filling up the shack and nearby paddock, the area got it’s name from what was left behind.
Camping in this area is wonderful, and if you are quiet enough you may see local wildlife in the late afternoon and evening. We saw kangaroos, emus, chuditchs, and of course possums, so zip up your tents!
Activities in this area include short walk trails, caving, Lake Cave kiosk, surf (strong rips), and fishing. Swimming is not recommend due to the strong rips, swimming is best done 23 kms south at Hamelin Bay.
Costs for camping are approximately $10 per adult per night, and a few dollars per child. For confirmation of prices and details contact DEC Busselton on (08) 9752 5555.

This is a fantastic spot to camp, as close to nature as you can get and just a drive away from the township.
You really feel as though you are away from it all as you relax in this beautiful setting
Conto's is a great getaway spot, cheap, secluded, near the beach. Good facilities. I recommend it :D
Gday all well i was there a cpl months ago and the beach field site is closed now. but we did camp in the point rd campground which was great. good facilities and the beach is not too big a drive. Walk down the beach a bit and its pretty much all yours!!
I really liked staying there i have stayed there twice now the first time with my dad the second was with my family and that time was the time i just about lost my life at the Contos fishing spot so please look at the WATER and the ROCKS and see if the rocks are wet and slippery because i just about lost my life PLEASE check your Surroundings before you fish
Hi
We would like to go camping in the south west again but have found that some of the other campers can be quite noisy until late into the night. Does anyone know of a camp site where it is generally quiet and there is more of an appreciation for quiet, star filled nights rather than party on late till you drop?
Anywhere within about 3 hours of Perth?
Many thanks
Jesse
Want to go down just after christmas but last year the campground was full when we arrived! can anyone tell me if you can book or if there's a way of finding out if sites are still free? the number for the local ranger on this page is wrong
Hi Vicky, the number for information is now (08) 9752 5555, I'll update the article to show the right one.
As for booking, not sure if you can, I don't think so it's kind of first in gets the spot. But if you find out you can book, let us know.
Hi Vicky and Graeme
I too think that the camp grounds are on a first come first served basis. I think this is across the board in the national parks. If you fancy another spot which are not on the coast, Cane Break Pool on Osmington Road is very nice (you could drop in at Colonial Brewery on the way too). Big fresh water pool with camping facilities, off the beaten track (gravel road) but worth the trip.
Hello!
i find getting information on this spot amazingly hard! i just want to know if we're allowed to have a camp fire! thanks for all the comments guys! :-)
hey! looking forward to comming hear on the 25th of october!

Hey guys, im with kalamunda venturer unit. we just had a district windup at contos, had a ball, we went to giants cave, margs, hamilion bay, and augusta over the weekend. we even pull 1 of the locals out of the bog after he snapped his fan belt on his hilux. the facilities are great, the ranger came around each morning and gave the bbqs a scrub and the benches a wipe, impressive. they have water on the tap, and normal toilets (Y) but i do recormend bringing flie spray the migs are killer.
