Bunbury Regional Art Galleries is presenting the inaugural South West Regional Arts Summit.  This event will bring together professionals from all facets of the visual arts to discuss a range of issues impacting on the arts industry across the South West.

The Summit offers an extended program to the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries annual Survey exhibition. Formal presentations and round table discussions are included in the day’s program to investigate issues affecting the visual arts industry across the South West.

Discussions will seek input from curators, artists, tourism managers, local government, business owners and policy makers who will offer their own perspectives on the opportunities and pitfalls for the visual arts within the South West.

Sonya Dye, Director of the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries says, “There are few structured opportunities for members of the arts community to come together in this way. We hope the views and opinions shared by attendees will provide us with valuable information about the needs and aspirations of the arts in the region for the future.”

With thorough documentation this inaugural event will assist in providing a basis for future discussion and development of the visual arts across the South West and potentially other regional areas. It will also offer an annual record of the changes, developments and limitations of the industry within the region.

Key speakers will be Dr David Bromfield, curator of the Survey 2010 Over There exhibition and Diana Roberts, past Director of the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries and an active researcher, historian and curator from the South West.

“This is an exciting initiative and one the Galleries are very pleased to be presenting and for participants, this is a chance to make new networks, share their experiences and receive the support of their peers,” said Ms Dye.
