Celebrated tenor and composer David Hobson will join Australian theatre and television stars Rachael Beck and Ian Stenlake in headlining the 12th annual Jalbrook Concert this November.
Hobson is one of Australia’s best known operatic and recording artists and is internationally recognised in musical theatre. Along with his award-winning role as Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann’s La boheme, Hobson has also had leading roles in Opera Australia’s Pirates of Penzance and Pearl Fishers. TV appearances include ABC’s Spicks and Specks and Channel Seven’s It Takes Two and Dancing with the Stars.
Hobson teamed again with Baz Luhrmann in a video collaboration with Christine Anu that won him an ARIA award in 1998, and received an AFI nomination for his film score to One Perfect Day in 2004.
It is a much heralded return to Jalbrook for Rachael Beck, who performed at the open-air concert with Todd McKenney in 2005 and is looking forward to returning to the Balingup event, in the heart of Australia’s South West.
“I am delighted and thrilled to be returning to Jalbrook - not with one, but two of the biggest names in Australian showbusiness,” she said. “My performance at Jalbrook (in 2005) was truly one of the highlights of my performing career - not only for the setting but for the wonderful audience. I can not wait to share this experience with my husband, Ian Stenlake and the gorgeous David Hobson.”
Beck is one of Australia’s most sought-after performers with leading roles in Les Miserable, The Sound of Music, and Beauty and the Beast - a role in which she played alongside Hugh Jackman. Her extensive career also includes roles in TV’s Stingers, GP and The Flying Doctors.
Best known for his current role in TV’s Sea Patrol, Stenlake’s background reads equally impressive, with standout roles in Oklahoma!, The Pyjama Game, Sleeping Beauty and Cabaret.
The support act is high-energy West Coast band PeaceLove and All That Stuff, featuring energetic frontman Tod Johnston.
