The principal of making a "town by town" comparison leaves us with something of a dilemma with regard to Bunbury. It’s just not a town any more.
Bunbury is a City and we consider the notion of "greater Bunbury" all the time, taking in areas that are part of neighbouring authorities Capel, Dardanup, and Harvey. The transformation from biggest town in the South West to regional city has happened in increments as you’d expect, but it is now a place where we are excited to live.
Greater Bunbury has a port in the top ten in Australia (by volume), and is the commercial and residential heart of the prosperous South West Region of Western Australia, one of the most diverse and dynamic regions in the nation.
Located about 180 km South of the Capital City of Perth, Bunbury now has a population in excess of 50 000 and is growing at a rate difficult to clearly quantify as the growth is now across several local authorities and ABS districts.
The city has made a remarkable transformation in a little over a decade from industrial city to the lifestyle capital or Western Australia.
Marlston Hill and Harbour City are emerging world-class residential, commercial and tourism projects with stunning views over the bay, ocean and inland to the Darling Ranges.
A rich maritime heritage has inspired the birth of this waterfront playground. The estuary, deep water port, a sheltered bay, a protected boat harbour and the Indian Ocean are within a few minutes of wherever you live in the City.
