The Be Active Busselton Jetty Swim 2010 held in conjunction with the National Heart Foundation was held on the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th February 2010. Ongoing repair work being carried out on the Busselton Jetty prevented teams from participating in this year’s event, but a 1 km short course was added to the format for those not able to swim the 3.6 km around the Busselton Jetty.
It was another successful weekend for the 15th annual Busselton Jetty Swim, even with the light showers and low cloud that hung around until the conclusion of the swim. None of it deterred any of the more than 1000 competitors who took part in both events from enjoying the flat, tranquil waters of Geographe Bay.
Live entertainment on Saturday included Just Sax and Nathan Gaunt. There was carbo loading Spaghetti and Salad takeaway dinner available as well as a Kids and Families Sand Castle building competition. Sunday morning saw those not participating in the swims digging deep in the Family Treasure Hunt. Mr Jim’s Magic Show; Just Sax and Drippy The Dragon got the crowd warmed up before Prita Grealy took to the stage. After the awards presentations, Ross Wilson & The Urban Legends rocked the foreshore with many saying they were one of the top three entertainers in the history if the swim.
First male across the line of the 3.6 km swim went to Tim Hewitt, winning in 43:57 minutes, just two seconds ahead of Jason Evans. Melissa Benson made it three years in a row, to be the first lady home in 45:46 minutes, beating Caris Dempster by just under two minutes.
In the 1 km event, Thomas Fleay took out the title with a smashing time of 19:53, with Anna Mills hot on his heels in 20:49 as the first lady to finish.
