BONUSES FOR SOUTH WEST BUSINESS
By Dave Roberts
The enterprise segment is generally where we celebrate
someone else who is doing
well in their business, have a look at what theyre
doing right, and enjoy the kind of neighbours we earn
when we move to the South West.
That is still what we will do most times, but this
month there are a couple of things that business people
in the South West should know about and they may help
you to do a little better at your business anyway.
We figure that if you get a little more prosperity
or enjoyment from your business, no one will hate
us for the change to the segment.
Firstly, the state government has over the last few
years run a program called Small Business Smart Business.
The program is based on the notion that many small
business people could use a little skill development
in their business but they are often put off by the
cost of the training, so they get by without it.
The Department of Education and Training believes
that if business people do some training and find
that it really helps theyll continue to build
their skills and the state will get a more competitive
business environment.
The bottom line is that if there is something that
you really want to get trained in, you should approach
your local Business Enterprise Centre and they will
be able to fund your training up to $200.00, subject
to your meeting some basic conditions.
Last year local business people learned to drive
computers, developed their safety skills, got accreditation
for working on mine sites, learned to build web sites,
and any number of other skills.
Its a good offer, and it is limited, so if
you want to do even better at your business, get in
touch with your closest BEC soon:

On the subject of wanting to do better at business,
the federal government is putting on a couple of free
seminars next Thursday, May 8. They are "Growing
Investment to grow regional business" and "Building
and attracting investment in your local area".
We really want the business to grow, to get us to
the point where we do the best parts and maybe have
the chance to offer some young people in the region
jobs. Chances are well need someone to tip in
some cash to make that happen, so the seminars looked
attractive to us. Hope that works for someone.
The seminars are at the Admiral Motor inn, 56 Spencer
Street, Bunbury, from 8am to 11:30 and then from 12:30
- 2:30pm.
If the seminars might be able to meet a need in your
enterprise, call the South West Area Consultative
Committee on (08) 9791 4552.
