The 2010 Geographe Bay Race Week was another fantastic event of racing action, with races held in the Geographe Bay, of Busselton, Western Australia. Racing began on 20 February, right through to the final race on 26 February, with just the one rest day on the Tuesday.
8 divisions of sailing were on offer in 2010 with a variety of different sized yachts filling the bay and making for some spectacular sights. In all, 114 vessels made the 2010 regatta its most successful yet. In its eighth year, yachts and sailors from around the country and even a few from New Zealand converged on Busselton for a shot at taking out the title in their respective classes.
In the IRC Blue Division, “The Next Factor”, skippered by Dave Walling and Vern Williamson, finished first, ahead of Trevor Taylor’s, “Optimus Prime”. “Minds Eye”, skippered by Brad Skeggs took the honours in the IRC Red Division, beating the 12 other yachts in this division, including “Constellation”, who were runners up. The IRC White Division was won by “Grandprix’s” Gary McNally, in a closely fought battle with Gary Rodera in “R2D2”.
The Jib & Main Cruising Division was another tight finish, with Gary Griffiths on “Heaven Can Wait” proving too strong for second placed “Morning Melody” and the remaining 8 yachts. Richard Pocock in “Trinity” and Robert Hall in “Asteroid” were joint winners in the Multi Hull Division, mixing their results over the 6 races.
The Premier Cruising Division was the largest category with 26 yachts competing, with Winston Scotney onboard “Corniche” the overall winner, narrowly edging out “Catalynne”, skippered by Don Brooker.
25 yachts lined up in The Racing < 10m Division, but it was “Team 2011 Batteries Not Included”, skippered by Barry Honey who had a comfortable win over Alan Thomas on “The Fox”.
The Sports Boat Division was won by local yacht “Bullit”, skippered by Kym Nisbet ahead of Tim Reger on “Fizz”.
For the second year running, the yachts successfully completed the Naturaliste Return race, heading off from Busselton, around the cape to Bunkers Bay and back again.
