Developing markets for wine producers across Australia is a tough gig at present, given the issues facing the industry. Sourcing new distribution channels for wine is a top priority for producers, and a new opportunity for introductions to potential export markets is being presented by the Small Business Development Corporation and South West and Great Southern Development Commissions, for Western Australian winemakers.
The SBDC, in conjunction with the two development commissions, is hosting a group of international wine buyers from eight export markets, and is calling for expressions of interest from Western Australian wineries who would like to be included in the tour’s itinerary. Austrade and TradeStart have designed this trade tour to assist in opening export opportunities for wine producers across all regions of Western Australia.
“The buyers group, from Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and Vietnam, will be tasting wines in Perth before travelling to the South West and Great Southern Regions”, states Ms Jacky Finlayson, Acting Managing Director for SBDC. “We are calling for winemakers to register their interest now, to enable the buyers to familiarise themselves with participating wineries ahead of the tour.”
Ms Finlayson says that many Western Australian wines are already well known around the world, but this presents an excellent opportunity for Western Australian winemakers to explore new export markets.
If you are a wine producer, and would like to be included in this opportunity, please contact the Small Business Development Corporation on 131 BIZ (131249) or TradeStart Advisor Alison Naylor direct on 9220 0217.

All news about western australian wines has to be good news for us all.
