BUNBURY INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL 2007

by Dave Roberts

Note: Like a lot of events, this one grows and improves, but we don’t write a feature every year.  Visit our events calendar and search to see dates and venue details for this year.

The Bunbury International Jazz Festival is on 10th and 11th February.

It’s a genre of music that comes and goes in popularity and there are lots of quiet enthusiasts out there.  It’s a poorly kept secret that there are moves afoot to see a Jazz club set up to bring more to the South West, and the success of the Bunbury Blues club has to suggest that it would work.

Meanwhile, we had to hear it from a little bird that there is a Jazz Festival set for Bunbury this weekend.  There will be a swathe of great performers..... Hip Mo Toast, Backlash, and SWAY are all favourites, and I’m excited to see that Bunbury SHS are performing.  Meanwhile the list of names is long and the organisers should be congratulated.

Just quickly, there are performances at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre that will require you to buy a ticket, and there are a raft of free performances at Centenary Gardens and Anzac Park.  First festivals are always hard to do, and the line up this time sounds and

looks exciting.  Any luck the South West will have another festival that can do for Jazz what Bridgetown does for the Blues, Boyup Brook does for Country, or Nannup for Folk.

February 10 and 11 in Bunbury, Check it out.
