The Bico Classic will showcase
some of the world's best women surfers from March
14th at Surfer's Point, Margaret River.
The other big event, running in conjunction
with the Bico Classic, is of course the
Salomon Masters. If you want to find out
more about that, read
our previous article on it.
But back to the Bico Classic. Running
at the same time as the Salomon Masters,
the Bico Classic is actually touted as the
world's number 1 Women's World Qualifying
Series surfing tournament for 2005.
It is expected to attract 48 of world's leading
female surfers (including Australia's own Layne
Beachley, and our own local Dunsborough girl Melanie
Redman-Carr) who will not only compete for prime
rating points, but also for a share of the AUD$38,000
prize money.
The combination of the Bico Classic and Salomon
Masters ensures that adrenaline junkies from all
over the world will descend upon Margaret River
and the surrounding areas to watch over 300 of
the world's best surfers compete on some of the
world's largest and most perfect surfing waves.
And a big crowd is expected too. In 2002 (a while
back now), over 3000 people watched the Masters
from the beach, and crowds have steadily risen
each year.
General admission is only $8, and is a great
day out.
