BUNBURY INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL 2008
Last year we wrote a brief intro to the Bun bury International Jazz Festival. Things got crazy and we didn’t even get there but reports made it clear that it was a really good opportunity for the people of the South West. As is our habit, there’s not a new article for this year, but we are excited that the Festival is on again and the press release is reproduced below.
It’s really a great chance to see acts that might never make it here, take advantage....
The City of Bunbury Presents…
Bunbury International Jazz Festival
Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 May
Bunbury will swing to the smooth sounds of jazz when the second annual Bunbury International Jazz Festival hits town. Lining up an array of talented jazz artists and styles, this year's Festival features US guests; guitarist Royce Campbell and trombonist Jim Pugh.
Campbell spent many years with Academy Award winning composer and conductor Henry Mancini, until Mancini's death in 1994. As a soloist he has toured in Europe seven times, Japan ten times and performed with many jazz greats such as Sarah Vaughn, Ray Brown, Dave Brubeck and Cleo Laine. |

Trombonist and composer Jim Pugh is often referred to as the 'musician's musician' because of his versatility. After touring with Woody Herman he settled in New York City and became the top freelance trombonist for film scores and records. He can be heard in collaboration with artists and orchestras such as Yo-Yo Ma, Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Barbara Streisand, Madonna and Pink Floyd.
Other festival performers include Australian pianist Bob Sedergreen who recently was awarded the 2008 Don Banks Music Award, jazz vocalist Kristin Berardi and saxophonist David Theak.
