A-MAZE-ING ADVENTURE
By Graeme Olsen
Sit back and enjoy a coffee or
tea while the kids get lost. In a maze, that is.
Or join in yourself!

For some reason, entering a maze always reminds
me of that Monty Python sketch about the "100m
dash for people with no directional skills".
People running everywhere because straight
ahead isn't necessarily the best way to go
straight ahead.
The air is filled with voices from the other
side of the hedge - "This way, this way",
or "Oops, dead end". People occasionally
walk past you, and you look at each other,
knowing that one of you is going in the wrong
direction.

Mazes are always a bit of fun, even
if you are one of the directionally challenged.
And the south west has a couple of
great mazes.
One is located on Vasse Highway between
Busselton and Nannup, called the Mythic Mazes.
The Mythic Mazes has the theme "Myths
and Legends", and not only provides a series
of mazes to work through, but challenges you to
walk in the footsteps of King Arthur's knights,
or to find characters from ancient Greek mythology
along the way, plus lots of other puzzles, sculptures,
and games. With a Gallery of Wonders and cafe on
site it makes for a great time for all the family.
The Mythic Mazes were a finalist in
the West Australian Tourism Awards in 2004.
Another maze is located further south
near Margaret River, in the Boranup forest. The
Boranup Forest maze has only the maze on site, but
there are other facilities nearby for food and drink.
The maze itself is located on Caves Road in Karridale.
So, if you're in the area, make sure
you drop in and take a look.
You can find out more about the Mythic
Mazes at their website at www.mythicmazes.com.au.
