WELLINGTON DAM OVERFLOWS!

Wellington Dam has overflowed for the first time in 5 years.

The anticipation was rising over the last couple of weeks as we reported the dam levels inching higher and higher towards full capacity.

And then late on Friday night the first drops of water started to trickle over the top.

That trickle slowly turned into a flood, and now the beautiful flow of water down the wall is expected to continue for a couple of weeks.

South West Life readers were among the first up to Collie to witness the event, and since then we've received a stream of photos.

Noel Davis was one of the first on the scene, when the waters were only just creeping over the edge:

And later on, when the waters really started coming over the wall, Gillian Marshall was there to grab this photo:

Trevor Longwood not only sent us the following photo:

but he even got us a video of the overflow! This has to be seen to believed.

Wellington Dam is a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year. But it's particularly nice now to see so much water in the dam. There are picnic facilities, bush walks, and a kiosk, so make a day of it. Simply travel up towards Collie on the Coalfields Highway, and follow the signs.

FEEDBACK:

"When I first arrived in Australia in the sixties, my family took me to Wellington Dam for a picnic, it was fun, and so interesting.  The first time I had seen a dam, and it was full to overflowing.Christmas 2003 I visited my family in Perth and we went on a trip to Bunbury and of course the dam.   Oh, such disappointment, the water was so low.  I am thrilled to hear the water level has increased. Surely a really beautiful place to visit, walk around and look at the wonderful scenery.  Sit and enjoy family eating in the picnic areas, and at the swimming areas, enjoy splashing and playing. My day will be full of memories of the dam. thank you"
