BLUES AT BRIDGETOWN FESTIVAL

by Graeme Olsen

Take heaps of Blues, add a pinch of Folk, a dash of Bluegrass. Beat with a sprinkle of Roots, combine with a slice of Rockabilly and you have the recipe for 'Mixed Bag Blues' - the theme at this year's Blues at Bridgetown Festival.

This year marks the 11th Blues festival at Bridgetown, and if you haven't seen one before, you've missed out on a huge event. Last year's festival attracted over 17,000 people, and this year promises to be packed with more surprises than ever.

The Blues at Bridgetown festival is an annual event held in November at Bridgetown (this year it's running from 4pm Friday 7 November to late Sunday 9 November) and is a weekend full of world class musicians playing fabulous music all over town.

The festival began as a small event designed to give something back to the community of Bridgetown for all it's efforts - kind of like a celebration of Bridgetown. In no time it has grown into one of the south west's largest annual events.

The line up for this year is actually too huge for us to reprint on this page. You can view the list of artists on the Festival web page at www.bluesatbridgetown.com, and a program will be issued on the festival weekend that outlines when and where everyone is playing. Overall, there will be a huge number of artists playing around town over the weekend, which is sure to keep audiences continually entertained and delighted.

The event is approaching fast, and if you want to watch the shows, you need tickets. There's probably no time left now to order by post, but you can still pick them up direct from the Bridgetown Tourist Bureau (details below) or from the Box Office (next to the Chemist).

If you're not from Bridgetown, don't worry, accommodation is available. Contact the Bridgetown Tourist Bureau on (08) 9761 1740 or freecall 1800 777 140 or email tourist1@iinet.net.au to find out about powered camp sites that are available (including a "share a tent option" at Tent City!), as well as all the usual accommodation options in and around Bridgetown. But accommodation will fill fast, so hurry.

Full details of the Blues at Bridgetown festival can be found at www.bluesatbridgetown.com.
