Perhaps it’s the little boy inside me but I still get a kick out of watching kids play the “whoopee cushion” prank on some poor unsuspecting soul. Another trick that never goes stale is the good old plastic spider. When I was a kid, a visit to the joke shop was top of the list when we had that extra “Christmas money” from the grandparents but I hadn’t been in a party shop for years until last weekend when I stumbled across Parties and Gifts at Nine in Donnybrook.

My eyes widened when I discovered this store choc-a-block full of props for pranks and gags. That alone was a pleasing find, but this is also a one stop shop for any kind of themed party. Whether it’s for a kids birthday or an adults party, a private function or corporate event, Parties and Gifts at Nine has a huge selection of party supplies and giftware. From paper plates, streamers and table confetti to all the latest licensed products such as Disney, Batman, Superman, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, The Simpsons; they have it all.

You will also find official AFL merchandise for your favourite team. I really don’t have enough room to fit in all the rest, so let’s just say, if you’re planning a party and need supplies or gifts there’s a very good chance you’ll get what you want at Parties and Gifts at Nine.

Of course, I spent most of my time in the novelties and jokes section and found a suitable present for my Dad who celebrates a mile-stone birthday this month – it’s an inflatable walking frame for the old and slow (See pic). Perfect!
