LET THE BATTLE BEGIN
There's a lot of great musical talent in the south west, especially amongst our young people. And an emerging annual music event is helping to lift and promote our young talent even further.
The annual youth music event Elevator kicked off at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre last year to great reviews. But it wasn't just the audience who got a lot out of it.
Elevator works like this. Young bands from around the south west are invited to apply to perform in a Battle Of The Bands concert at the Entertainment Centre.
The bands perform in front of a capacity crowd, under full concert conditions, and are judged by music professionals.
Not only do all bands gain valuable experience and feedback, but the winning band gets access to prizes that will help improve and promote them even further. This year those prizes include a cash prize of $1000, a day in a recording studio, and also an invitation to perform at the Bunbury MAX Youth Festival the following weekend at the Graham Bricknell Shell, with an expected crowd of over 5000 people.
Organisers of Elevator are expecting more entries, and more ticket sales, than they can handle.

Although there are many Battle Of The Bands competitions around the south west, the majority of them are held in pubs and clubs, where it can be difficult for young bands to enter. Elevator is particularly targetted towards young people (students), giving them an opportunity to play in a concert environment in front of their peers.
Entries for Elevator '08 are now open, and application forms can either be picked up at Vibrations Music Centre in Bunbury, or online at www.elevator08.com.
