With just under 2 weeks until the South West Football League kicks off for season 2010, the first real hit-out begins with the Hungry Jacks Pre-Season Carnival on April 10 and 11.
Held at three locations around the South West – VC Mitchell Park, Hands Oval and Brunswick Oval, the 10 clubs have been split and will play two games each in the hopes of reaching the Grand Final, which will be played at Hands Oval in Bunbury on the Sunday.
The list of teams competing in the Pre-Season Competition are as follows:
Augusta-Margaret River Hawks Harvey Bulls
South Bunbury Tigers Donnybrook Dons
Collie Eagles Harvey-Brunswick-Leshenault Lions
Eaton Boomers Busselton Magpies
Bunbury Bulldogs Carey Park Panthers
After that it is straight into the first round of the regular season on April 18 and all teams know that a win here will set them in good steed for the upcoming months. There are no easy games for any of the teams in this competition and upsets are quite common throughout the year as those expecting to win are often given a reality check by teams not rated as highly by the opposition.
Carey Park Football Club were the League winners of 2008 and 2009 and will be out to make it three in a row in 2010. The Reserves competition in 2009 was won by the Harvey-Brunswick-Leshenault Lions and the Colts crown was claimed by the Eaton Boomers.
No one knows who will be playing finals football in September, but every team in each of the three divisions will be giving it their best shot at winning the title.
