Xanadu Wines, of Margaret River, have cleaned up at the 2010 Macquarie Group Sydney Royal Wine Show, which was held on the 1– 4 February, 2010.
The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Perpetual Trophy was awarded to the Next of Kin Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, for the Best Red Wine of the Show with a wholesale price excluding WET and GST not exceeding $10 per bottle, and a Gold Medal in the Cabernet Sauvignon or Blends category.
If the Next of Kin Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 results are not enough cause for celebration for the team at Xanadu, the Xanadu Chardonnay 2008 was also bestowed with a Gold Medal. Silver medals were awarded to Xanadu Shiraz 2008, and Xanadu Mourvedre 2008.
The medal haul from the Sydney Royal Wine Show fortifies Xanadu Wine’s reputation as one of the finest wine producers in the Margaret River region. Since their inception in 1968, when John and Eithne Lagan arrived in Margaret River and planted the first vines in what is now one of the region’s oldest vineyards, Xanadu has been winning awards for wines produced since the early 1980’s.
Xanadu’s winemaking philosophy is strongly held, yet very simple. Grow great fruit, pick it at just the right time, and guide it through to the bottle without too much intervention. If their latest results are anything to go by, this philosophy seems to be working for them. Get down to your local wine store and see what all the fuss is about.
