South West Sports Centre Swim School Best in the State

lappers.jpgThe South West Sports Centre outshone all other swim schools in WA when it won a state-wide award recently.

The Little Lappers Swim School was awarded the 2010 WA Austswim Swimming and Water Safety School of the Year at the “King Neptune” WA Aquatic Conference on Sunday (October 10).

The award recognises the swim school’s contribution towards educating people of all ages and abilities on water safety, while maintaining an ongoing commitment to the development and retention of quality swim teachers.

South West Sports Centre manager Cameron Woods said the swim school had gone from strength to strength since the City of Bunbury took over management in July 2007.

“When the City took over, the swim school was averaging 400 children a term and very few adults were enrolled in the program,” Mr Woods said.

“But with the introduction of the new Royal Life Saving Society and Austswim endorsed swim school model in July 2007 it now averages 700 enrolments per term.

“This improved customer retention rate is due to the range and quality of programs on offer, and our high teaching standards are not only evident through winning this award, but also in the number of students enrolling.”

In addition to the lessons offered for babies and children, Little Lappers Swim School has been recognised for their commitments to adult learn to swim programs.

Most students are adults from overseas where access to quality and affordable learn to swim programs were not available or considered necessary.

“Our swim teachers play a big part in the success of the swim school.

“The South West Sports Centre supports them with training and development and through encouraging a healthy work/life balance.

“In return, we are rewarded with a team of quality teachers who are passionate about their role as water safety educators.”
